# About Rooster

### What is Rooster?

Rooster is a rule-based notification system for critical and unexpected results, used by the acute hospitals across NHG and NUHS. When a test result comes in, Rooster determines its criticality and, based on the routing rules, sends an alert message via Microsoft Teams to the clinician in charge or on call for acknowledgement.

Beyond result notification, Rooster also supports essential hospital workflows such as rostering, including monthly and daily rosters.

You can access Rooster at rooster.gov.sg and log in with your institution email.

### Who can use Rooster?

Rooster is used by all clinicians in NHG and NUHS who may be included in a routing rule for critical or unexpected alerts. This covers ordering doctors, authorising doctors, and clinicians rostered on call for a specific location, as well as non-NHG/NUHS staff such as MOHH-employed House, Dental and Medical Officers, residents and visiting consultants from SingHealth, and NNI staff on the Novena campus.

Rooster is also used by healthcare staff who configure and operate the system, such as lab users who set up result filters, department secretaries who manage rosters, call centre users who handle manual intervention, and superusers who configure routing rules for their institution.

To find out more about the different roles on Rooster, refer to [User Roles and Permissions](/introduction-to-rooster/user-roles-and-permissions.md).
